In this installment of The562.org’s Classics video series, we look back at 2008 when we just started covering sports for Long Beach Post. Moore League football was incredibly well-stocked with talent that season with Poly and Lakewood playing each other in the CIF Southern Section Pac-5 semifinals.

Even a third-place game at the end of October between Wilson and Jordan featured a future NFL player on each sideline: Jordan’s John Timu and Wilson’s Joel Bitonio are now hall of famers at their respective schools after making it to the NFL. And they both played like it on this night when it actually rained from a cloudless sky.

And that wasn’t nearly the strangest thing we saw as Jordan came back to win 31-27 on a touchdown run with 19 seconds left. This highlight includes a handful of trick plays, lead changes and a surprise ending that changed the shape of history.

We’d like to dedicate this one to the late Shaun Lumachi who gave us our first jobs at the Long Beach Post. Videos like these wouldn’t exist if he didn’t give us a chance to start our careers in 2008. Thank you, Shaun.
