Running back Rashad Wadood wasn’t even supposed to play on Friday night after missing several weeks with injuries, but when starter Allie Long went down against the San Clemente Tritons with a wrist injury, Lakewood coach had no choice.

Wadood rushed for 202 yards on a workman-like 33 carries to help Lakewood to a 24-7 victory in the first round of the Pac-5 Division CIF Playoffs last night, the only Moore League team of four to win their opening round game. Wadood did not have a touchdown but set up several scores and sealed the win with late gains that kept the clock running.

Todd Barr and Dupre Jordan-Roberts caught touchdown passes from quarterback Tyler Schultz and Kajaye Rodgers ran in one score.

San Clemente had several chances to score and seize control of the game but the Tritons missed an early field goal and committed four costly turnovers. Junior quarterback Travis Wilson rushed for 72 yards and threw for 148, but also threw two interceptions and lost one fumble.

Lakewood will face Alemany in the second round next week.
