On a stacked Long Beach Poly boys basketball team that won the C.I.F. title this season, point guard Alexis Moore and power forward Ryan Anderson stood out as the team’s senior leaders. And though the Jackrabbits fell in pursuit of their State championship goals, the 2010-11 season was one to remember for the Poly faithful, in large part due to the efforts of these two.
Moore made drastic improvements in his game at the point guard position, controlling the team’s offense and wreaking havoc with his length and athleticism on defense. Anderson grew into his 6-8 frame and added a pinch of attitude in the paint, becoming an almost unstoppable force with the ball. In fact, he was named the Gatorade State Player of the Year.
And as with most outstanding Long Beach athletes, there’s more to these two than their abilities on the court. Anderson maintained a GPA over 3.0 while Moore’s has been nearly stratospheric at well over 4.0. Their hard work on and off the court attracted plenty of attention at the next level, as Moore will play for USC next season and Anderson is headed east for Boston College. While they’re moving on to the bigger and better, both hometown boys have a lot of pride in their alma mater.
Recently, both sat down with Jonathan Harper to discuss their 2010-11 season, their plans for the future and what Poly has meant to them during their high school careers. Check out the video above and let us know what you’ll remember most about Moore and Anderson in the comments below.
