At Cal State Long Beach’s 2008 Homecoming game against eventual conference champ UCSB, the 49ers battled all game long but it was Donovan Morris’ 33 points that kept them in the OT slugfest. This tribute to his gutsy performance features a crafty drive and lay-up in traffic, a nice dish to Cornel Williams, a desperation 3 that ties the game with 3 seconds to go in regulation, two more dishes to Williams and another that Williams missed, then regained only for Morris to foul out on a questionable charge call.
Morris’ jersey was bloodied in the 2nd half and he switched from his #4 to a clean #55, the former jersey of last year’s conference MVP Aaron Nixon, and it was truly surreal watching D-Money suit up and seemingly channel the spirit of the notoriously clutch Nixon. The 49ers dropped this game but it was a heroic performance from Morris that should be remembered for years to come.
That’s me and J.J. providing the commentary on the video. Look out for next year as we follow this team, completely intact after graduating zero seniors this season.
