Well, there’s actually not a lot going on within the confines of the city this weekend.  Six of the seven Moore League teams are going to be on the road, Long Beach State Women’s Volleyball and Soccer are out of town, as is the Men’s Water Polo team, which is playing another crucial match against Loyola Marymount on Saturday.  Check out the schedule for the scant local games, and the matchups you might have to burn some gas to see.

Friday

Moore League Football: Wilson vs. Los Al, 7pm

The Wilson Bruins are that one of seven teams that’s playing at home this weekend, in our Game O ‘Da Week.  Coach Morales and his Bruins are 2-1, already improving on last season’s 1-9 record.  All three of their games so far have been on the road, and they’re finally returning home…to face a brutally good Los Al team that’s ranked number 8 in the Pac-5 Division by CIF.  Los Al is 2-0, coming off a 48-0 stomping of Fremont last week and are heavily favored to win this match.  But the Bruins have Jemari Roberts, a top recruit who’s a threat to score every time he touches the ball, and an emerging defense that posted a shutout last week against Ganesha.  They’ll have to play tough to hang with Los Al, but these Bruins have surprised us before.

Saturday

LBCC Football vs. West L.A., 6pm

After a defensively-fueled victory last week over a good Cerritos College squad, the Vikings return home to try and correct the errors they made in their home opener loss.  They’ll face stiff competition from West L.A., but it should be a competitive game that will give QB Josh Powell and star receiver Stephen Burton a chance to shine at Vet’s.
