5:00pm | No. 44 Long Beach State extended its winning streak to three straight matches, defeating Louisville 5-2 Thursday afternoon.

Long Beach State started the day by sweeping the doubles point. Sarah Cantlay and Julie Luzar got the action started with an 8-2 win over Brown/Duncan at No. 3, while Jaklin Alawi and Rachel Manasse sealed the point with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Anais Dallara and Klaudia Malenovska then wrapped up the sweep of doubles by rallying from an early deficit to defeat Fellerhoff/Shine 8-5.

In singles, the 49ers’ depth played a key role as Long Beach State won easily in the bottom half of the lineup. Cantlay dropped just a single game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Gabrielle Duncan, while Alawi was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 4 singles. Manasse defeated Amelia Harris 6-1, 6-2 to round out the bottom half of the lineup.

Malenovska helped clinch the win with a 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while both Dallara and Deborah Armstrong fought back from first-set losses to force a super-tiebreaker, with the team finish going to the 49ers. Both players dropped the tiebreaker, however, with Armstrong falling 6-4, 1-6, 10-4, while Dallara lost in a 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 decision to Julia Fellerhoff.

The 49ers were back in action Friday, playing No. 37 Pepperdine in Malibu this afternoon.
