The suspects allegedly stole about $5,000 worth of merchandise from a beauty store near the Los Altos Shopping Center.
Both businesses reported they would still be open for business today despite the break-ins.
Police were able to track the suspects to a home a few miles away in the Wrigley neighborhood, where they found the merchandise.
SWAT officers also came to the Target, but it turned out the suspects had already fled, police said.
LASD detectives were conducting a burglary investigation that led them to Costa Mesa on Oct.15, when they saw three suspects quickly run from the side yard of a home to a car nearby.
The incident happened at about 5 a.m. with police responding shortly after. The store is located in a strip mall on Long Beach Boulevard just south of San Antonio Drive.
The teenagers got in through an open window and took a projector and several calculators before a school safety officer stopped them, LBPD spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said.
Burglars lugged two safes out of the credit union, but one of them—still locked—was left on the sidewalk about 20 yards from the front door.
Police said the resident called to say he’d used his cell phone to look at his home’s security camera footage and saw two men inside.
