An Apple TV limited series that filmed scenes in Long Beach, including a dramatic car chase downtown, released its first episode today.
“Lucky” — based on the bestselling novel of the same name — stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Luciana “Lucky” Armstrong, a reformed criminal who’s on the run after being forced to confront her past, according to the show’s synopsis. Lucky must complete one final job “to secure her freedom and leave her former life behind for good.”
Film permits obtained by the Long Beach Post revealed that the show shot scenes at nearly a dozen locations throughout the city.
In April and May last year, crews filmed multiple scenes along the Promenade between Third and Fifth streets, at the Long Beach Airport, the Golden Sails Hotel and at the International Tower condos on East Ocean Boulevard near Shoreline Drive.
The show’s trailer contains a quick clip of a dramatic car chase filmed along Fourth Street near The Promenade. That day, multiple “San Diego Police Department” vehicles were used for filming and parked nearby.
Crews also put up fake signs on vacant storefronts along Fifth Street, sparking speculation online about the project.

Other notable film locations included:
- Boathouse on the Bay restaurant
- Belmont Shore Beach between 54th and 55th places
- A house on East Ocean Boulevard east of 54th Place
- Caruso Ford on Cherry Avenue
- A house on Chestnut Avenue north of 11th Street
- A house on West 12th Street near Cedar Avenue

Jonathan Tropper, creator of the Apple TV show “Your Friends & Neighbors” starring Jon Hamm, wrote and executive-produced “Luckey” along with Taylor-Joy, Reece Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter.
Drew Starkey, Timothy Olyphant, Annette Bening and William Fichtner are also reportedly part of the cast.
In recent years, other major scenes have been filmed around Long Beach, including for an upcoming sequel to “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Last month, a “Baywatch” reboot also filmed a series of concert scenes near Rosie’s Dog Beach.
