Looking for some treasure after throwing out your trash during spring cleaning? More than 80 California Heights households will be out selling their unwanted items this Saturday during an inaugural community yard sale organized by Long Beach native Trina Rufo. The event will be held Saturday from 8:00AM to 3:00PM. Grab some cash and get after it.
The cocktail event of the season, Long Beach’s own Cocktail Festival will feature a “whole lotta shaking” of innovative flavor combinations, fresh ingredients and quality spirits sure to please any palate, discerning or not. Attendees will have the chance to taste dozens of recipes made by the city’s best bartenders who will convene in one place for this inaugural outdoor celebration on Saturday, June 13: Roxanne’s Cocktail Lounge & Latin Grill in California Heights.
More than 250 children battling cancer and serious blood disorders, as well as survivors will team up with celebrities starring in children’s television shows and movies this Saturday. The occasion? The 30th Annual Champions Run for Life, also fondly known as the “Torch Run.” To raise funds for the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center (JJCCC) the survivors and patients will run, walk, wheel or be carried in a relay race while passing an Olympic-style torch in celebration of another year won in the fight for their lives.

He’s the man who answered the phone when you called the rehab hotline at 2:00AM. “I’m the man who wrote the script to that porno you just watched,” he stated. Having held 82 jobs in just over 20 years, Brandon Christopher does the math: that averages one job about every three months. And the Los Angeles native has survived to talk about all of them in a new book, called The Job Pirate: An Entertaining Tale of my Job-Hopping Journey in America. Christopher will make a stop on his tour for The Job Pirate at 6:00PM at Gatsby Books Saturday.
The last annual Ink-N-Iron Festival will begin Friday and continue through Sunday with musical acts, burlesque shows, a tattoo convention and classic cars on display. All the fun will take place in and around the Queen Mary. Headliners include Pennywise, Killswitch Engage, the Nekromantix, Gary Numan and Peter Murphy of the rock group Bauhaus. Musical performances begin at 2:00PM on Friday, 11:00AM on Saturday, and 11:30AM on Sunday.
