Experience a concert with family and friends at Marine Stadium tonight. The city is kicking off its “100 Days of Summer” series, which features free concerts and recreational activities to keep adults and kids occupied all summer long, at little or no cost. Tonight’s free concert runs from 6PM to 8PM. Get going—and bring blankets, chairs, and picnic food while you’re at it. It starts soon!
The inaugural ShipKickerCountry Music Festival is ready to rock you—country style—at The Queen Mary’s Waterfront Event Park Saturday and Sunday from 11:30AM to 11:30PM. Musical performances from the likes of Dustin Lynch, Parmalee, Eric Paslay, The Railers, Jukebox Mafia and David Fanning will warm the part in your heart that digs a lil’ twang. Tickets start at $35 online and $45 at the door. Two-day tickets are $65 in advance.
In honor of fallen soldiers, a free Civil War concert series at the Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site offers a way to remember our veterans in a bonafide rancho setting. This Sunday’s concert features a performance by the Band of the California Battalion, an authentic recreation of a Civil War-era Union Army Band with period instruments designed by Adolph Sax. Authentic, indeed. Concerts will run on Sundays from May to August and from 5:30 to 7:30PM. Guests are welcome to arrive as early as 4:30PM for pre-concert picnics.
Saturday marks the opening weekend of Death of a Salesman at the Long Beach Playhouse, the first time the Playhouse has ever performed the Arthur miller classic. Witness characters in vintage costumes perform what is widely considered one of the best pieces of American drama ever written. Set in 1949, fear and love are juxtaposed to show us the “best and worst” of human experience, according to the Playhouse.
You’re definitely not ready for these jellies. The Aquarium of the Pacific’s new jellies exhibit opened Friday and features some jelly fish that are out of this world. Bring your camera and be amazed.
