For the first time, the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra (LBSO) are teaming up on an ocean-themed performance. Attendees can embark on a musical journey as they are surrounded by fish in the Aquarium’s Great Hall during this evening event, which is free with advance reservation. This show provides an opportunity for music enthusiasts to discover the Aquarium.

George Crumb’s Voice of the Whale for flute, cello, and piano was inspired by the songs of the humpback whale. The LBSO Chamber Players will take people on an oceanic voyage with a vivid collection of sounds: the screech of the seagull, the splash of primeval ocean waves, and the songlike whisper of the mighty whale itself. Also on the program is Camille Saint-Saëns’ beloved Carnival of the Animals performed in the original chamber version for two pianos, string quintet, flute, clarinet, and percussion. This will be accompanied by a reading of the humorous poems of Ogden Nash.

The event is free with RSVP and will take place on June 7, 2012 from 7:30pm-9:00pm at the Aquarium of the Pacific, 100 Aquarium Way. For more information, call 562-590-3100 or visit www.aquariumofpacific.org. To RSVP, call 562-436-3203, ext.244 or email [email protected].
