11:26am | On August 13th, Granada Beach in Belmont Shore will be hosting the 79th annual “Great Sand Sculpture Contest”. The free event is being organized by Rotaract Club of Long Beach, and will be hosted by Alfredo’s Beach Club.

The Contest is one of the signature events of Long Beach Sea Festival, and attracts thousands of people fro Southern California and beyond every summer to enjoy sculptures created by professionals and amateurs alike.

The event will feature not only sand sculptures of all sizes, but also food vendors, music, a beer garden, a kid’s zone, and various attractions for all ages. Teams will begin sculpting at 9am and attempt to create the sculpture that best embodies “The Spirit of Long Beach”, which is this year’s theme. The contest and the prize ceremony will take place between 2pm and 4pm.

“The event has been a community favorite in previous years,” said Nate Trimmer, Vice President of Operations at Rotaract Long Beach. “We are looking forward to seeing sculptures of all shapes and sizes come into existence this year as well.”
