Three art sales occurring this weekend will help Long Beachers not only find a gift, but truly snatch up unique, alternative presents that help support local artists and businesses.
The 45th Annual CSULB School of Art Holiday Sale will keep its doors open from December 9 through the 15 and showcase the original work of both students and faculty.
“I would say the true success in the 45 year tenure of the sale is that it has connected the community to the School of Art and helps to support the value in the community of art and the handmade,” said Tony Marsh, head of CSULB’s ceramic program and overseer of the sale. “It also offers students the real-life opportunity to bring their works, be it art or craft, to the market place. Perhaps just as important in all of this is the fact that 100% of monies raised in the event go directly, through Program Clubs, to student scholarships, students and program support.”
Even more intriguingly, one may have the chance to buy a piece from a future art star, such as recent graduate Adonna Khare, who was awarded this year’s prestigious $200,000 ARTPRIZE (and whose work was at this very sale at one time).
The ArtExchange Long Beach will host their sale tomorrow, December 8, at their inaugural Holiday Salon. Taking place during the Second Saturday Art Walk in the East Village District and running through December 22, over 35 artists will feature pieces in which a portion of their sales will benefit the art organization.
“This show is styled after a traditional French art salon show,” said board member Frank Burton, who chairs the Exhibitions Committee. “Commercial galleries host big group shows exhibiting a variety of work—a classic December show for a gallery to do.”
Lastly, the South Bay Artists Sale will host some Long Beach-based artists featuring works spanning jewelry to leather work, photography to painting. This single day sale will occur tomorrow, December 8, from 9AM to 5PM.
The CSULB School of Art Holiday Sale will be in the CSULB Art Department Galleries and courtyard, located in between the Fine Arts 2 and Fine Arts 3 buildings on the southeastern section of the CSULB campus. Parking for the sale is available in Lot 8, off East University Drive. From the parking lots, patrons are asked to follow the directional signs leading to the sale.
