October marks Long Beach Arts Month, and the Long Beach Post has partnered with the Arts Council for Long Beach to celebrate the image makers, the painters, the dancers, the designers, the musicians, and the countless other artists who make our city vibrant and cultured. Our homepage will feature an artist’s own unique interpretation of Long Beach daily, so make sure to check back every weekday to discover or rediscover a local talent.

Sammi Huston was born and raised in the mountain town of Running Springs—she says her vivid dreams about her hometown inspire much of her art—before moving to Long Beach eight years ago. Her work largely focuses around interesting use of perspective, which she uses to inspire the children in her Perspective Drawing classes she teaches at Cultural Alliance Long Beach (CALB).

Those who followed the Post when we had a print edition would know her as our witty comic artist, under the pseudonym Lucy Fur. Others know her for her artistic talents that go beyond the pencil—she is also a talented singer, guitarist, and pianist, and can be found performing at open mic nights throughout the City.

Sammi’s work can be found every 2nd Saturday at the East Village Art Walk, where she shows off her drawings, paintings, and charcoal sketches of imaginary Burton-esque cityscapes, fantastical monsters, and all things creepy and crawly.
