Long Beach State (CSULB)’s most artistic faculty members are having their work featured at The Center Long Beach in a series of ongoing exhibits.

The collection, entitled The Space Between Reality and Illusion, explores just that divide: human’s obsession with what can be deemed as real and what can be classified as illusory.

“I am excited that each artist’s vision has expressed the many personal and creative possibilities to question what illusion and reality means,” said exhibit curator Marka Burns, whose work is also featured in the exhibit. “I was impressed by the philosophy of The Center one where artists could have a venue to show their work and where original art would be affordable and accessible to the public, all the while providing another way for The Center to be part of the community.”

In addition to Marka Burns, work will be featured by six additional artists: Mic Burns, a graduate from the Cornish School of Art Seattle, whose current work focuses on his impression of galaxies before they were formed; Arlene Cartozian, a CSULB art teacher for almost thirty years, will showcase her inspiration of autumn colors; Lila Crespin, who focuses on art education at CSULB; Dorte Christjansen, a Danish native whose work captures “the fleeting, fragile beauty of nature”; Wendy LaGreen, a licensed therapist, uses trees and maps to explore her own ancestral coordinates; and Donald Tiscareno, who explores widening the gap between illusion and reality by painting macro, large paintings of the ocean and Grand Canyon.

The exhibit will officially open on November 2 with a reception to be held at the Center on Saturday, November 2, from 2PM to 5PM. The event is free and open to the public; any sales of the paintings on hand will have a portion benefitting The Center. The Center is located at 2017 E. 4th Street.
