11:15am | The Forty-Niner Shops of California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) are gearing up for their 4th Annual Bowling for Books event, scheduled for Friday, April 20th, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at Cal Bowl in Lakewood.
Don Penrod, the shops’ general manager, kicked off the event back in 2009 to address the overwhelming and rising costs if textbooks. Although the cost of books is controlled by the publishing houses, Penrod decided to think outside the box to ease the burden. To date, the tournament has exceeded initial expectations, raising some $180,000 in the first three years. This year, the Shops have already raised over $50,000.
Everyone who enjoys to get their bowl on are encouraged to participate and solicit donations on behalf of the scholarship campaign. Each bowler will receive 3 games and shoe rental, a t-shirt, hosted refreshments, attendance to the awards reception, a raffle, and other prizes.
Registration is due this Friday. To register or learn more about the event, please click here or contact Laura Welty at 562-985-7700.
