As Diaz grew up in Long Beach, she and her family have been longtime supporters of the local entity, which advocates ocean conservation, according to the aquarium.
So far, $42 million has been raised for the Pacific Visions Campaign. Most recently, the aquarium secured a substantial gift from The Ahmanson Foundation, a $150,000 grant from California Natural Resources Agency and nearly $10,000 from visitors who donated at the ticket window, according to the Facebook post.
The Pacific Visions wing is slated to open in 2018 and will include an interactive theater, changing exhibit gallery and an art gallery, expanding the aquarium’s capacity to two million annual visitors and strengthening its ability to educate them about the challenges facing our ocean.
