At a joyful ceremony at the Hotel Maya Tuesday, California State University Long Beach freshman Chloe Hatfield was crowned Miss California Teen USA, a title she will hold until January when the 2014 California State Pageants take place at the Terrace Theatre.
Hatfield, the first runner-up at the 2013 state pageant, took over the title from winner Cassidy Wolf, who won Miss Teen USA on August 10. The crowning ceremony was held on the second day of Hatfield’s first semester at college, where the Norco native is enrolled in CSULB’s nursing program. On social media Wednesday, Hatfield said she is “still on cloud 9.”
A representative from Top 10 Productions, which produces both the Miss California Teen USA and Miss California USA pageants, said that this type of crown takeover is rare in the state and the last time that California won Miss Teen USA was 1994.
“We know Chloe is going to do an amazing job as the new representative and make the most of her time before the 2014 pageants,” said Top 10’s Alex Kuty.
Hatfield’s new title holds even more significance for Long Beach not only because the city has a long history of hosting pageants going back to The Pike days, but will also host the next round of Miss California USA pageants in January, where Hatfield, now a Long Beach local, will crown her successor.
“We are thrilled to be in Long Beach for the 2014 pageants,” Kuty said. “Logistically the venue was the best option with meeting our production needs, plus we felt Long Beach was a great destination to give the families plenty to do while the contestants are in rehearsals. Long Beach is also the birthplace of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants so we knew we were meant to be here this year.
Top 10 Productions is now accepting contestants for the Miss California USA pageants until Nov. 1. Interested applicants should visitwww.MissCaliforniaUSA.com and click “Apply Now” to be contacted for an interview.
