DLBA’s Steve Sheldon and Esther Sunukjian brought me up in a helicopter to photograph Long Beach’s downtown skyline.
We flew around for an hour and I was continually amazed with our city!
That night I sat down and started editing all the photos, at that point, it really hit me: Long Beach is a great city! I love the communities being built, the strong pull for a better society. Everywhere you turn, people are cleaning up their act, wasting less water, recycling, working to support our young athletes, setting up charities and non-profits to help the less fortunate. These are all things I have seen with my own eyes in the past month! Long Beach is a great city and it’s only getting better.
I know what you’re thinking right now: “Samuel, what does this have to do with aerial images of our downtown?”
My answer to that question is this: We are all working hard to beautify and add value to our city… these images should be encouraging and let you know that we are succeeding. Let’s keep this up!
Have a look at these aerial shots and it will force you to agree with me. Long Beach is great and only getting better, the future is bright my friends. Keep getting involved in your communities, raising awareness on environmental issues, keep reading up on the political structure of our city and see how you can help out! This is your city.
The start of Shoreline drive with Ocean Blvd. going straight through the heart. Belmont Shore in the distance.
Rainbow Harbor, the Long Beach Marina with our oil islands and Belmont Pier in the background
I keep playing the game: Which Yacht Do I Like The Best? It’s hard to tell here.
Part of the Pike, which is getting much more foot traffic these days.
Our beach! Thanks to everyone working hard to keep our beaches clean!

The Queen Mary is Long Beach’s crown in this picture.
I love what the architects did with the Aquarium and its grounds
Go walk around that small harbor. Film a commercial or a movie by that lighthouse. Anchorman and numerous others have been filmed there.

These 2 pictures make me feel really big. I love the simplicity. They feel relaxing…but we all know helicopters and parking lots are not relaxing.
