Starting on Memorial Day and lasting all the way to Labor Day in early September, the City of Long Beach will offer hundreds of free or low-cost cultural programs, sports activities and special events, according to an announcement released Monday.
100 Days of Summer is a partnership between Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine and the Long Beach Convention & Visitor’s Bureau that seeks to promote opportunities to “stay and play” in Long Beach.
“I encourage all residents to enjoy the wonderful activities, including movies, concerts, sports, aquatics and cultural programs being held this summer throughout the City,” stated Mayor Robert Garcia. “Everyone should visit www.100daysofsummer.org often to see all the fun and exciting ways to stay and play in Long Beach this summer.”
To kick off the upcoming months of fun summer programming, Flashpants, a high-energy “80s party dance band,” according to the band’s bio, will perform a free concert at Marine Stadium on Friday, May 27 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, preceded by a Kids Zone starting at 5:00PM.
Concertgoers are advised to bring their dancing shoes and to prepare to make at least a few new friends by the end of the evening. And don’t forget to bring blankets, chairs and picnic grub for a relaxing time with family on the lawn. Several food trucks will also be available.
With 100 Days of Summer providing great ideas all summer long, those abreast of the happenings won’t have to travel far or spend a lot of money to find fun things to do. Listings will include free concerts and movies, Long Beach Sea Festival events, the El Dorado Nature Center; Rancho Los Cerritos and Rancho Los Alamitos historic sites, ideas for spontaneous activities such as like bicycling, golf, tennis, kayaking and swimming, free drop-in youth and teen programs, and much more, according to the release.
