Co-Chairmen of the Museum of Latin American Art’s (MOLAA) Board of Directors, Mike Deovlet and Dr. Robert Braun, announced Tuesday that the museum’s president and CEO, Stuart A. Ashman, will leave MOLAA at the end of July.

“We are appreciative of Stuart’s many accomplishments at MOLAA and wish him much success in the future,” the co-chairs stated in the release.

Ashman has served at MOLAA’s helm for the past five years, overseeing a full exhibition schedule and guiding the local institution through a time of growth and accomplishment that included achieving accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), the highest national recognition for a museum.

He also spearheaded a MOLAA Board Resolution that clarified the definition of Latin American art to include Chicano art or art created by people of Latin American descent who have only lived in the United States, according to the release. MOLAA’s doors are now officially open to the entire Latino community, meaning those living in their native countries, the US or abroad.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to have served as MOLAA’s President and CEO and to have contributed to moving the Museum forward over the past five years and I look forward to seeing the Museum’s continued success,” Ashman stated.

Ashman, who was the former cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, will return to his home in Santa Fe, where he will take on the position of executive director at the Center for the Contemporary Arts come August.
