The community is invited to access health and nutrition information, sample healthy recipes, tour the Peace Garden, and participate in lots of fun activities during the free Third Annual Fruit and Veggie Party on Saturday, August 29, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM at Martin Luther King Jr., Park.
“Events like the Healthy Active Long Beach Fruit and Veggie Party provide a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together to learn about the great resources Long Beach offers to help keep our community healthy,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement.
The festivities are sponsored by the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Healthy Active Long Beach Project, and will bring together partners from multiple city departments as well as many other community programs, according to the release.
“Exposing people to a healthy, active lifestyle at an early age helps people live fuller, richer lives, and that’s important to all of us,” said Councilmember Dee Andrews in a statement.
This free event will celebrate Healthy Active Long Beach’s 12th year, and is the wrap-up event for their Power Up Your Summer campaign, which encourages children and their families to get at least one hour of active play each day and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables during the summer break.
Fleet Street and Empact Communities will provide free bike repairs (bring your own bike), Home Depot will host a kids’ seed planting activity and KJLH Radio will provide music and giveaways.
The event and activities offered by the Healthy Active Long Beach Project are made possible thanks to a grant received from the USDA through the California Department of Public Health’s Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Branch. For important nutrition information, click here.
