We all have our favorite little greasy spoon that we like to hit up for breakfast, lunch, and the occasional dinner. There are a few that I like, but the one that wins for breakfast is Fantastic Café. Located on the corner of Studebaker and Anaheim, it is just waiting to serve you up some great food. I was turned onto this place by my friend Doug who lives right around the corner and likes it because it is good food without the long weekend wait that we see at many of the popular breakfast spots. After his recommendation, the next time that Dianne and I were looking for a place to get breakfast we drove on over and have been somewhat regulars ever since.

Once you park and get in you will notice that you need to walk up to the counter and order. The line is not usually more than two or three people so it won’t take but a minute. While you are waiting, check out all of the different things that they have to offer. They have the usual eggs with bacon, sausage, ham, and much more. They also have great Belgian Waffles, egg sandwiches, and omelets. The first time that I went I had the Ham and eggs and I was more than pleased. Usually when you go to a place like this and get ham and eggs it is either a piece of SPAM thrown on the grill or some other dinky little piece of processed pig. Well this was a full-on ham steak with a piece of bone and fat to trim. The flavor was smoky and salty and just what I was looking for. It came with three eggs, hash browns, and a piece of toast all for around 7 bucks. Dianne had the bagel sandwich with eggs and sausage. I stole a bite as I always do and it was tasty as well.

Since my first visit I have tried many of the different breakfast plates that they serve. The waffles are crispy and light, served with eggs and any kind of meat that you would like. The breakfast burritos are huge and come with many different meats including sausage, carne asada, carnitas, chorizo, and of course ham and bacon. If you order the combination you get to pile on a few different kinds. They also have a good chicken fried steak. I ordered it and was not expecting much. As I would consider myself a CFS specialist, I have had many good, a few bad, and even less great experiences and this one would fall right into the good category. It came with three eggs, hash browns, toast and a pile of gravy on top of the CFS. I was more than pleased and will order it again without question.

Next time that you are looking for a tasty breakfast at a very reasonable price just head over to the Fantastic Café. Order up your favorite thing, find a booth, and enjoy starting your morning off right.

Until Next Time, Keep Eating Long Beach,
