I’ve recently changed to a vegan(ish) diet  and with being a busy wife and mother of two it has been challenging to find tasty substitutions for my favorite foods. When I heard that La Guera Tamalera (White Girl Tamale Maker) not only makes fresh vegan tamales but delivers them straight to your home I thought, por que diablo no (why the hell not)?

These organic tamales contain no lard, no corn oil, no canola oil,no gluten,  nor trans fats, but still find room for mucho flavor. You have a choice of three vegan tamales and meat lovers can also choose organic pork or beef. I’ve tried them all (remember, vegan-ish) and the sesame and kale made with garlic and black-eyed peas in a sweet potato masa is my favorite.

The owner and La Guera Tamalera herself, Deborah Stern, hand-delivered my Veracruz-style[1] tamales neatly packed and labeled with my vegan options separately packaged. I reveled in the anticipation of my first bite as I carefully freed the beautifully wrapped blue corn jalapeno & daiya cheese tamale from its corn husk cocoon. The sun’s rays found its way to my face and my hair began to catch in a breeze from an unknown source as I devoured my tamale in a very lady-like fashion.

La Guera also offers vegan dessert tamales, seasonal because she buys only the freshest local produce. She uses organic evaporated cane juice and brown sugars that are not processed through char bone(vegan talk).

If you still can’t choose what type of tamale to get, you can also order freshly made organic masa and create your very own double bacon cheeseburger tamale or any favorite flavor combination.

You will want to take advantage of Guer-rilla delivery, which offers free delivery on days they are in your neighborhood. Follow La Guerra Tamalera on Twitter or Facebook to keep track of their every movement. Or check out http://www.gttamales.com/
