Lola’s Mexican Cuisine has announced that the Fourth Street Retro Row staple and family-run, family-loved restaurant will be opening a second location in Bixby Knolls this fall. The seven-year-old storied eatery was opened by Maria Delores Navarro (Lola), as former Post editor Brian Addison wrote in this heartfelt article.

It has carried on the tradition of bringing together the “community, families, friends, lovers and strangers” for the sake of an innovative, well-made meal for nearly a decade.

“We are excited to be opening our second location in such a great part of town here in Bixby Knolls. We love the community and family atmosphere here,” said Luis Navarro, chef and owner of Lola’s, in a statement.

According to the release, although downtown Los Angeles, downtown Long Beach and even Orange County were considered as potential locations for Lola’s second restaurant, Bixby Knolls took the tamale because “it only made sense to stay close to home” and to “bring something special to an already thriving community.”

The new location will take the place of Le Yen Chinese restaurant, a swell corner spot on Atlantic Avenue right across the street from Trader Joe’s. It will continue to serve the Long Beach community with its made-from-scratch modern contemporary Mexican fare and general devotion toward the good of, now two neighborhoods, within the city.
