The shuttering of Kabob Curry on 3rd between Pine and Pacific in DTLB brought both sadness and emptiness to our stomachs over the loss of $8 Pakistani lunches and masala fries that put Fresh Kabob to shame.

At least the loss will quench our thirst: R Bar, the latest US-based investment from Desai Holdings LLC, a California investment firm that has grasps on everything from hotels to retail.

A welcomed move next to the upcoming Gu Ramen, R Bar—currently looking like a tacky Bud Light advertisement on the bar’s Facebook page—looks to be your hipster-centric, industrial-meets-brick watering hole, complete with welded metal and reclaimed wood chairs and an outdoor dining space. It feels like a far cry from DTLB’s otherwise impeccable drinking spots. (The showcase of Blond Bud Light girls I am sure has Beachwood cringing.)

According to its social media, they plan on having “the local’s living room”—a phrase they plan on coining and using on the building’s facade, right next to “the public’s living room”—open within the coming weeks.

For those interested in working for the joint, they have applications open.

Dubai Holdings has yet to return a request for comment on this piece.

R Bar is located at 108 W. 3rd St.
