The Queen Mary has added the first-ever Mixology Dinner and Competition, to take place on August 27, to the ship’s already-successful Barrel Dinner Series, composed of several five-course meals each paired with a different liquor designed to match the fare’s flavor profile and culinary concept.
Four mixologists will be selected to leave an impression on guests’ palates by using premium spirits to make their own creative concoctions. Each cocktail connoisseur will pair their drink with a selected dinner course by Queen Mary’s Executive Chef, Todd Henderson. Diners, participating as judges, will rate each competitor on showmanship, taste and look of the cocktail and the flavor profile of the pairing.
The drool-worthy menu will feature potato latkes with smoked trout, braised pork belly and grits, caramelized black cod with salted apricot and opera terrine with golden stracciatella.
“We’ve already had very successful dinners with Jack Daniel’s, Rum and Tequila,” said Assistant Food & Beverage Director, Hamed Anwari. “The Mixology Dinner was added to the lineup because we wanted to present a dinner that utilized all the spirits in a creative way.”
He added, “Competing bartenders have a chance to do what they love and showcase their mixology skills to a group of enthusiasts…as well as represent where they work as bartenders.”
The evening will begin in the historic Queen’s Salon with welcome cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and will culminate with cigars, dessert and the awarding of a $2,000 cash prize to the winning mixologist. Guests will not only experience a fantastic, expertly-paired meal, but a fun dining experience and an interactive show.
Professional bartenders can still apply for a chance to be selected to compete during the Mixology Dinner. Applications are due on Friday, August 7.
