During the Renaissance Hotel’s annual Global Day of Discovery tonight guests can taste over six craft beers as Sip Bar + Lounge in downtown hosts Taps + Tastes from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. All-inclusive tickets for the event are $20 per person and feature craft beer tastings from different local and regional brewers, small plate pairings created by Executive Chef Janine Falvo, live entertainment from local band Black Noise, a live DJ spinning tunes on the patio and free self-parking.

A silent auction will be held during the event with all proceeds raised set to benefit the victims of last Sunday’s devastating shooting in Orlando, Florida.

Chef Janine Falvo said she was “in shock” when she first heard the news, according to the release.

“The LGBTQ community in Long Beach is saddened by the tragic events that took place on Sunday in Orlando,” stated Falvo. “We have been planning our Taps + Tastes summer kick-off for months, but we felt we had to pause for a moment and help those who are suffering. This is a small gesture on our part, and we hope the community will come together to show their love and support for those who are suffering.”

Among the silent auction items is a private tour of The Dudes’ Brewery in Torrance with an overnight stay at the Renaissance Long Beach and dinner for two at the Sip Bar + Lounge. 100 percent of the proceeds raised during the auction will benefit the victims of the Orlando shooting.

The first 50 guests to arrive will receive a commemorative pint glass, while partial proceeds from tickets purchased for the event will benefit the students at Washington Middle School, located north of downtown Long Beach.

“Global Day of Discovery is a great time for us to kick-off the summer,” stated Pamela Ryan, general manager. “It’s also designed for our guests and the community to discover something new, so Taps + Tastes is a discovery of some local and regional craft beers. The brewers will be here pouring their beer and mingling with guests. Chef Janine Falvo has curated a menu to pair with the various craft beers, so it’s a culinary event as well. Plus we’ll have live music, a DJ and much more.”

Chef Falvo’s Taps + Tastes, summer-inspired menu might leave the most decisive foodie at a loss for what to choose. From Lobster jalapeño poppers with curry tempura and mint-cilantro chutney, street corn rolled in Cool Ranch Doritos and cilantro to steamed clams and crispy pig ears, there’s only drool-worthy dishes to pair with wide variety of brews from more than six California brewers including Firestone, 10 Barrel, Sierra Nevada and South Bay brewer The Dudes’.

Guests will also have an opportunity to enter to win a “Staycation” for two at the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel, which includes a two-night stay plus dinner and drinks for two at Sip Bar + Lounge. In addition, the hotel has partnered with Long Beach Yellow Cab to offer $15 off fares for first-time riders attending Taps + Tastes.

Visit the event page here for more information and to purchase tickets. Guests must be 21 and older.

Sip Bar + Lounge is located at the Renaissance Hotel Long Beach at 111 East Ocean Boulevard.
