Super Mex – Menu
Multiple Locations in Long Beach, Orange County, and Las Vegas‎

Super Mex is a Long Beach mainstay that serves up good, well portioned Mexican food at a very reasonable price. Started in 1974 by Manuel and Socorro Orozco in Downtown LB and supported by the large number of CSULB and LB City students, Super Mex has grown to seven locations in the Long Beach area, seven locations in the OC, and two in Nevada. Despite all this growth, Super Mex is still operated by the same family and still produces quality south-of-the-border favorites.
I have the opportunity to eat at Super Mex a few times a month, usually at one of two locations. My girlfriend likes to go to the one on Second Street for dinner, enjoying favorites from their Lighter Side menu such as the whole wheat chicken burrito. The location that I frequent most often is at the Lakewood Mall, which is perfect for lunch as it is close to my office in Bellflower and never has a wait. We usually head over there, sit right down, and have drink in front of us before we realize it. The setting is comfortable, clean and tasteful, and they have a full bar so if you would like to have a few beers or a margarita with your meal the option is on the table.
Today we headed to the Lakewood location to have some lunch. We sat outside as it was a nice afternoon to take in the crisp fall air and sunshine. Our server promptly came to the table with a basket of their large round chips and a bowl of tasty salsa and took our drink orders. Within ten minutes of getting our drinks and placing our food orders, our meal was on the table. This is great for lunch when you only have an hour. I ordered the Machaca burrito, which is a scramble of sorts with eggs, shredded beef (or chicken), tomatoes, and onions. I like to mix in some sour cream and hot sauce to give it a well rounded flavor. The Bone, being the sucker for Chili Verde that he is, ordered the Chili Verde combination plate, tender chunks of pork slow cooked in green chili sauce and served with rice, beans, and tortillas. He devoured it with his usual vigor so it must have been tasty as everything is at Super Mex.
I have sampled many of the different things on the menu including enchiladas, flautas, burritos, tacos, and various other combinations. I will say that I have never been disappointed and am always surprised how inexpensive it is. I have rarely spent much over $20 for two people, and when I do there are boxes of food going home, and tasty leftovers for lunch the next day.
If you are a fan of Mexican food, have a bunch of mouths to feed, or are just looking for a nice place to grab a bite, Super Mex is your spot. They are located all over Long Beach and the surrounding area, so find the one that is closest to you and get ready to feast. The recipes may come from Mexico, but this place is a Long Beach original.
