There’s a relatively small art show going on, Saturday, at downtown dispensary Haven, because, as you know, small art shows are the only kind that will be happening any time soon.

The Haven Art Show is noteworthy, not only because there will be free grub (always good) but because it will be showcasing more than 40 works of art from more than 10 accomplished local artists, including Cameron Calderon and Simon Gonzalez, as well as John Park who is known as a muralist as all as for his 3D cardboard art that includes masks and mounted animal heads. A 3D, T-Rex skull was commissioned by the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History for its Fossil Hall.

Steve Martinez, whose work appears above, is a muralist, photographer and graphic designer, whose work deals with the discourse between the symbolic and the realistic within daily urban life employing Mayan symbols and hieroglyphs. (Though we’ve always been a big fan of a bird piece he did that hung in our own Hi-lo Gallery.)

Haven Art Show is Saturday, March 14, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Haven, located at 1248 Long Beach Blvd.
