In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Long Beach’s two Latino council members, Mary Zendejas and Roberto Uranga, hosted live entertainment at the Long Beach Civic Center Plaza Tuesday afternoon, featuring a mariachi, free desserts and a wind instrument performer.
About 40 people, including city leaders and staff, attended the celebration, which took place before a City Council meeting where the public would learn more about efforts to build a Latino Cultural Center.

The award-winning group Mariachi Divas, followed by an indigenous wind instrument performance by Martín Espino, a world-class performer and teacher, performed for attendees who were enjoying free desserts from Inglorious Funnels, a food truck serving funnel cakes, ice cream and churros.
Clarissa Carney, 51, brought her 17-year-old daughter to see the performances and join Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
“This is my first time coming out from the pandemic,” she said.
