For many of us, walking or cycling is not just the only form of exercise we’ve been getting during stay-at-home orders, it represents pretty much our only meaningful connection with the outside world.

We spoke with two people whose business it is to help you maximize your enjoyment and safety while doing either activity: Steve Gerhardt, executive director of Walk Long Beach and Aaron Rickel, marketing manager of Pedal Movement, both of whom say they are seeing heavy participation in both activities.

The Hi-lo’s Asia Morris and Steve Lowery spoke with the pair about great places to walk and ride, the ongoing struggles with automobiles and how each discipline can keep the momentum going once people go back to work and, presumably, back to their cars.

There’s also a bit of hair drama that’s worth waiting for.
