5:09pm | It’s the end of the Mayan 2012 calendar on Dec. 21, 2012, and Hotel Maya today kicked-off the “The Year To Go Mayan” yearlong sweepstakes featuring monthly hotel weekend giveaways, guest lectures, themed movies, a Mayan dinner show, and food and beverage promotions. A grand prizewinner will also be awarded an 8-day, 7-night, all-expenses-paid vacation to the heart of the Mayan Nation in Yucatan, Mexico.
“As an award-winning designed Mayan-themed property, Hotel Maya is a natural to stage the area’s largest, most authentic Mayan 2012 Calendar celebration,” said Kristi Allen, General Manager at Hotel Maya – a Doubletree Hotel. “We have a variety of exciting Mayan related activities that feature the best of the Mayan culture throughout our property, food and beverage selections, and hospitality offerings.”
On Dec. 21, 2012, the Maya’s “Long Count” calendar marks the end of a 5,126-year era. The Mayas predicted a final event that included a solar shift, a Venus transit and violent earthquakes.
According to “Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation Into Civilization’s End” by Lawrence Joseph, “Part of the 2012 mystique stems from the stars. On the winter solstice in 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years. This has been stated to mean that ‘whatever energy typically streams to earth from the center of the Milky Way will indeed be disrupted on 12-21-12 at 11:11 p.m. universal time.’”
And “CNN” reporter A. Pawlowski states that additional theories about what might happen range from solar storms triggering volcano eruptions to a polar reversal that will make the earth spin in the opposite direction in “Apocalypse in 2012? Date spawns theories, films.”
Nearly all scholars dismiss these cataclysmic theories. However, taking these dire predictions into account, Hotel Maya is conducting its Mayan 2012 Calendar sweepstakes encouraging guests to live your life to the fullest with “The Year To Go Mayan” mantra before Dec. 21, 2012.
“We respect the Mayan civilization and people and want our guests to ‘Go Mayan’ while visiting the property and being immersed in the culture and history,” added Allen.
