Long Beach Funk Fest founder Bobby Easton has delivered on his promise, again, to keep the funk alive, despite his July announcement to skip this year’s festival. Easton will partner with the Downtown Long Beach Associates for their September Live After 5 event to bring the funk to four different locations come Thursday, September 10.

Long before the DLBA’s Summer and Music (SAM) series became the massive undertaking it is, SAM was a simple series of small live music events, including Funk Fest, which was part of SAM until 2013. The Queen Mary took it over last year.

In honor of the event that has brought some of the most respected funk bands and singers to the streets of DTLB since 2009, the DLBA has decided to dedicate their September edition of Live After 5 to Funk Fest.

Live After 5, the Funk Fest Edition will funkify the following four locations come Thursday, September 10: Toxic Toast Records, Public Beer & Wine Shop, the Music Tastes Good headquarters and A Lot on Pine.

See below for all the details and the lineup, just recently announced on the Facebook event page.

Toxic Toast Records (757 Pine Avenue): 5:00PM to 8:00PM: DJ Battle with DJ Abel and Quest

Public Beer & Wine Shop (111 West Fourth Street): 5:00PM to 8:00PM: Needles & Skin and DJ Ervin Arana

Music Tastes Good Headquarters (641 Pine Avenue): 8:00PM to 11:00PM: Henry & The Invisibles

A Lot (643 Pine Avenue): 5:00PM to 11:00PM: DJ Dennis of The Good Foot, DJ Clifton of Funky Sole, Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, DJ Gazoo of Subsuelo and Slapbak.

Long Beach’s own Sea Funk Brass Band will be parading throughout the event, while “some epic live painters” will be placed throughout the locations.

“We are just working to continue with our motto, sustaining our future through funk, and keep doing what we can to contribute to Long Beach’s vibrant culture,” said Easton in a July article.
