Colonial Bakery, the donut spot on the corner of Pacific Avenue and Fourth Street, shocked everyone this week with a sign on the door announcing they are permanently closing after 40 years in business.

“Thank you for choosing us as your donut shop and for your support all these years. It has been an honor to serve Long Beach,” part of the sign read. We’ve reached out to the owners, but so far haven’t been able to get the story behind the closure.

They did leave one parting message. In their note, signed from Hun, Mike and Jenny, they encouraged everyone to “support the other small businesses that contribute to this city’s vibrance.”
