I’m sure you’ve had the “Conserve water” lecture, or seen the “STOP Wasting Water” campaign, maybe you have been guilty of staying in the shower too long and not conserving water. I think all Long Beach residents are aware of our desperate need to save water. You know the need to be rational in your water use. But does the City of Long Beach? Is our city being hypocritical by supporting the call to action of our Water Department’s water conservation campaign, and then letting thousands of gallons of clean water go onto the streets with poor irrigation? Is this really happening all over the city?
I know for a fact that “My Street” (Second Street) in Belmont Shore constantly is wasting water when the rest of us think they’re just watering the plants. Take a look at these images I took with my main camera, as well as some with my trusty iPhone.
So do we deserve to have higher water rates and have our taxes pay for this waste of water?
The new water conserving campaign slogan should be… “Take a shorter shower and don’t flush your toilet so we can waste water on the streets.”
I’m not saying we shouldn’t save and conserve water because the city’s sprinklers on Second Street do not. I’m saying, this is a big deal, we have a water shortage, so if anyone should save water, it should come from the city itself.
I want to hear your thoughts after you see these images.
Every evening plants are “being watered.” On Second Street in Long Beach, the plants aren’t really even watered… the street is. Thousands of gallons of week down the drain and useless.
Lets fix this!
We need better plant watering sprinklers that sit lower to the ground, higher barriers for the flower and plant beds, as well as more efficient watering techniques.
