There’s no need to go over what 2020 has been like; we all know what 2020 has been like. And so, when the idea came to us of putting together the most compelling videos produced by the Long Beach Post this year, the idea of attaching anything to it with the words “Best Of” seemed rather tone deaf and, frankly, ridiculous.
But, although 2020 has produced little of what any person could think of as best, it often drew out the best in many of us. Despite a relentless convergence of pain, anger, fear, division and tragedy, people rallied, stood up and stood by each other. There have been car parades and graduations, hard conversations, porch concerts and late-night ovations. Tested, people have shown a remarkable facility to move on and push through, to show, in a word, resilience.
Join us on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. for “Resilience” a free virtual film festival featuring some of the best work from the Hi-lo and Long Beach Post. Tickets are available here.
We’ll revisit the moments that made this year, well, this year, as well as the people who made it unforgettable. There will be newly edited footage marking monumental change and the small moments and acts that are no less significant, as well as live performances by some of our most interesting and popular subjects.
In all, it will be a collection of the people, places and events that defined 2020; a look back with an eye toward the future, one guided by hope and, always, resilience.
Admission to “Resilience” is free, register on Eventbrite now to receive a link to our YouTube premiere.
