This week we, of course, have live concerts (some even free) because what’s a weekend without tunes? But we’ve also found a few free outdoor movie screenings, a drinking and drawing party, some cool art you should take a look at, and a waterpark party. Yeah, seriously.

JUDY BACA EXHIBITION – MOLAA (Wednesday – Sunday)

Available now for viewing at the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) are the works of internationally renowned Chicana painter and muralist, Judy Baca.

The exhibition, which will be on display until January 2022, is the first comprehensive retrospective of the famed artist, presenting more than 110 works.

Viewing is available according to MOLAA’s hours, which are currently Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance costs $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students. Children 12 and younger can enter for free. Purchase tickets online, here.

INK & DRINK – SUPPLY & DEMAND (Thursday)

Get your buzz on while you draw and doodle with other artists at the Ink & Drink art party Thursday at Supply & Demand. If you’ve never been before, just know it’s a great place to meet fellow artists in a relaxed setting with some great tunes.

The bar will provide the paper and Sharpies to draw with, or you’re welcome to bring your own supplies. If you’re one of the first 20 people to arrive at the event, you’ll win a free limited edition Ink & Drink T-Shirt, too.

Ink & Drink starts at 8 p.m. Must be at least 21 to enter the bar.

CAMBODIA TOWN THRIVES LAUNCH EVENT – COMPOUND (Thursday)

Celebrate the launch of Cambodia Town Thrives, a new website and community hub aimed toward developing and supporting the Cambodia Town community.

The indoor-outdoor event at Compound in the Zaferia district will include speakers from the Cambodia Town community, opportunities to learn more about the initiative and a film screening of the locally loved but now closed KH Market, which sold hard-to-find Southeast Asian items for the surrounding community.

MOVIES & MOONLIGHT: “POCAHONTAS” – 2ND & PCH (Friday)

Catch a free outdoor movie screening of “Pocahontas” at 2nd & PCH Friday, July 30 as part of the Movies & Moonlight series at the dining and shopping center.

The movie begins at sunset (roughly 7:45 p.m.), but it’s best to arrive early to stake your spot along the main street, which is blocked off to traffic. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets as complimentary seating is limited. The center requests that all attendees adhere to social distancing.

2nd & PCH is at 6400 Pacific Coast Highway.

FLEETWOOD MAC TRIBUTE BAND GYPSY DREAM – GASLAMP (Saturday)

Gypsy Dreams is the type of cover band that strives to recreate the Fleetwood Mac experience as authentically as possible. And we’re here for it.

Expect full costumes, solid covers, video backdrops, and even a rather uncanny-looking Stevie Nicks (Lisa McCormick).

Catch their set live at the Gaslamp Saturday, July 31. Doors open at 6 p.m. Show starts at 8 p.m.

BREWMANCE DOCUMENTARY FILM SCREENING – LIBERATION BREWING CO. (Saturday)

A documentary film about two of Long Beach’s most celebrated breweries, Liberation Brewing Co. and Ten Mile Brewing, will be screened for the first time at Liberation Brewing Co. in Bixby Knolls Saturday, July 31.

The film takes an intimate look at the beginnings, pitfalls and ultimate success of the brewing companies’ journey to legitimacy.

Tickets cost $15 and include a pint of “Essential Insanity” a wheat lager brewed specially for the screening. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets as the screening is outdoors. Doors open at 7 p.m., movie at 8 p.m.

WASHINGTON NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK PARTY AND RESOURCE FAIR (Saturday)

This Washington neighborhood block party hosted by the Washington Neighborhood Association, AOC7 Neighborhood Association, Habitat for Humanity and Puente Latino Association will feature live music and DJs, art demonstrations and activities, and free food and treats.

Locals can also find vaccination opportunities as well as community resources for mental health, parent support, life-skills education, mentoring, tutoring, and more.

The event is from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at 14th Street Park between Cedar and Chestnut Avenues.

FRUIT PUNCH WATER PARK PARTY – SCOTTISH RITE EVENT CENTER (Sunday)

Long Beach lifestyle website, LB Home + Living is trying to help locals beat the heat this summer with an adult (21+) waterpark party at the Scottish Rite Event Center.

They’re bringing in giant inflatable water slides, an above-ground pool, giant Inflatable Slip-n-Slide, water guns and pool toys, two full bars, and live performances and DJ sets.

Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased online, click here. Tickets do not include food or drinks. Tickets must be purchased online and will not be available at the door.

DUSTBOWL REVIVAL CONCERT – MARINE STADIUM PARK (Sunday)

Internationally touring Americana band, Dustbowl Revival, will be performing a free concert at Marine Stadium Park Sunday, Aug 1.

The event, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m. will also include pre-concert performances by the Wilson High School Syncopated Drum Corps alumni, face painting, community resource booths, and bike registration (if you choose to bike to the event).

There will also be food trucks parked on-site, including Cousins Maine Lobster, Rice Balls of Fire and I Love Funnel Cakes.
