The weekend has reared its glorious head once again and we are counting down the hours until we can enjoy the taste of sweet sweet freedom. But with great weekend comes great responsibility. You must decide how you will have the best weekend you can have, and we want to help.

Here is your guide to what is happening this weekend.

  • Cambodia Town Film Festival: The Cambodia Town Film Festival takes over the Art Theatre this Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7. Highlighted is the first Cambodian film ever nominated for an Oscar, Rithy Panh’s already-classic The Missing Picture. Matt Dillon, writer, director and star of 2002’s City of Ghosts, will be on hand to engage in a Q&A following the screening of his film.  For show times and tickets, click here.
  • 1st Friday in Bixby Knolls: It’s that time of the month again (the fun one, not the one that ruins your life). 1st Fridays is kicking off the month in Bixby Knolls, but this time they are folkin’ it up. Long Beach Folk Revival Fest is taking over this month (September 27) and there is sure to be good vibes all around. The event starts tonight, September 5, at 6:30PM and goes until 9:30PM.
  • The Shining at the Cemetery: Long Beach Cinematheque presents its last movie at Sunnyside Cemetery for the summer season. If you can stomach watching a Stephen King film while hanging out mere feet above the remains of our dearly departed, grab your blankets and chairs and head over. You can buy your tickets at here. Gates open at 6:30pmand the film starts at 8:30. There is Limited, stacked parking available at Sunnyside, but there is plenty of street parking across Willow from Cemetery.
  • Belmont Car Show: Do sleek chrome and big engines rev your motor (all puns are intended)? Then the Annual Belmont Car Show is the spot to park yourself this Sunday. The car show will be hosted on 2nd Street (it will be closed off to through traffic) and will go from 9AM and 3PM.
  • Buskerfest: You can get down for free Saturday at Buskerfest presented by Summer and Music. This year’s lineup is sure to satisfy with acts like Bearcoon, Ghetto Blaster$ and The Moderates. Buskerfest will take place Saturday, September 6 from 5PM to 11PM on 1st Street between Linden and Elm Ave.

So when your co-workers ask the eternal question, “What are you doing this weekend?” you can give them a confident response on not the standard, “I don’t know.”
