Yesterday, the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA) reported that bike thefts throughout the West Division of Long Beach have increased by 84% through 2014 compared to 2013. To their credit, the DLBA’s extremely well-written and professionally done article that included tips on how to properly lock and safeguard your bicycle.
Now I’m not going to say that I’m a more creative writer than whoever did that story at the DLBA, but I think we can come up with a more fun way to alert people into the best practices in securing a bicycle.
Meet Hal Ruzal from Bicycle Habitat in New York City. Hal became Streetfilms Famous for a three-part series where he wanders the streets of New York and grades the bike locking he comes upon. Because of Hal’s personality, picture your-hippy-bike-riding uncle, these films have been watched tens of thousands of times throughout the world.
So if you ride a bike, sit back and watch to learn how to get an A from Hal.
