Twice a year, the staff and Steering Committee of Longbeachize reach out to you, our readers and supporters, to ask for a donation. Longbeachize is part of the California Streets Initiative (along with Streetsblog Los Angeles and California and Santa Monica Next) a 501c(3) non-profit organization. As such, we rely on reader donations to supplement our advertising to keep our news website up and running.
All doantions are tax deductible. You can donate to Longbeachize here, you can make a bitcoin donation through Santa Monica Next, here. Or, you can join us on July 8th at Hamburger Mary’s for a happy hour. More info on that in a second.
This year is an especially easy year for us to reach out. Beach Streets was a phenomenal success, and lest you forget, Longbeachize and Brian Addison had a lot to do with getting the program off the ground. Once the city worked with Metro to fund Beach Streets, Longbeachize was there to cover all of the major announcements, provide our own fun guide for the day and cover the event itself. Longbeachize was there for it all, from the pre-beginning through the event…nobody covered the event as we did.
Also, we’ve been touting the honors being hailed at our most recent editor, Brian Addison who is a finalist for three Los Angeles Press Club Awards, including one for his work at that other online publication at Long Beach. You can read more about Brian’s great work, here.
But this year we want to reward some of our loyal donors, and to do that we’re raffling off three items at our event on July 8th for people that donate.
Anyone that donates anything, and I mean anything, qualifies for our raffle for a Longbeachize tote bag. Be the envy of every car-free hipster at your local farmer’s market with an official tote. It’s totes worth it!
If you donate $50 or more or sign up to donate $5 every month, you move on up to qualifying to possibly win a Longbeachize t-shirt. There are only three of these in existence so you’ll be in rare company with exclusive clothes only owned by the most stylish people in the world: Brian Addison, my five-year old son, and me! Of course, you’ll still be entered in our first raffle for the tote bag as well.
Last, if you donate $100 or more, you’ll be eligible to win an exclusive Longbeachize Field Bag. With pockets big enough for a small laptop and camera, people might confuse you for Brian Addison. Or, you can fill it with pennies and bring it to our winter happy hour to qualify for our next raffle. The sky is the limit! And, you’ll be eligible for our other two raffles as well.
As we mentioned earlier, we’ll be having a happy hour from 5:30 to 7:30 at Hamburger Mary’s on July 8th. Feel free to join us there and if you aren’t comfortable making donations on the Internet, you can certainly hand us cash or a check at the party!
Free news isn’t cheap.
We believe that everyone should have access to important local news, for free.
However, it costs money to keep a local news organization like this one—independently owned and operated here in Long Beach, without the backing of any national corporation—alive.
If independent local news is important to you, please consider supporting us with a monthly or one-time contribution. Read more.
