More parking is coming to Downtown Long Beach: the Planning Commission has formally approved the construction of a parking garage that will add 297 spots.
The move, which will require drivers to pay for parking between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. (down from 9 p.m.), came after controversy over new parking regulations set earlier this year.
Set to affect some 197 parking spots, parking will be limited to three hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday with payment of $1 per hour.
Requiring housing developers to attach a certain amount of parking to housing is the perfect recipe for increasing housing costs.
Staff will examine streets between Junipero Avenue and Alamitos Avenue that might accommodate 90-degree diagonal parking.
Parking in Alamitos Beach doesn’t cost you a dime. It does, however cost you something much more valuable: your time.
