Governor Jerry Brown has stated his concern over “these damn bills” that prevent him from focusing on more important things. Like other bills. Bills that will allow beer bikes to finally come to fruition.
You read that right: beer bikes, where patrons on pediwagons (that are controlled by drivers) can drink while on board (while the driver does not).
Long Beach first pediwagon launched in 2012 by way of the Pedaler Society. Equipped to hold a keg, the pedi was only permitted to take patrons to and from bars but not serve on board. The business was sold and the pediwagon returned, according to Joseph Bradley, former operator of Pedaler Society.
Things are now looking up as the bill allows people on pedicabs with as many as 15 riders to imbibe if their city permits it and if a safety monitor is on board. Brown signed Senate Bill 530, by Senator Richard Pan, without comment.
Does this mean the return of Long Beach’s Pediwagon? We heard that the Marriott in DTLB has one… You down for the cause, Marriott?
