Long Beach police have released video footage of a car that hit a pedestrian before the driver got out and stabbed the man to death in California Heights, according to authorities. Police said they need help finding the white Mazda 3 hatchback that hit the victim on Orange Avenue just north of Wardlow Road. Police said the car is a recent model between 2011 and 2014. It was missing a bumper before the crash, and it may have damage to its passenger-side mirror from the impact.

A man was shot to death to in front of a North Long Beach apartment building Monday night. The shooting happened around 10:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Andy Street, which is just northwest of the intersection of Downey Avenue and South Street, according to authorities. Neighbors said they heard one shot and went outside to find a young man lying on the sidewalk. The small dead-end street is lined with apartment buildings, many of them with neighborhood watch and no-trespassing signs. Ben James, who lives in one of the apartments, said he knows just about everyone from the neighborhood but he didn't recognized the slain man. "He don't live over here for sure," James said. Tuesday morning, there were two candles near the curb, marking where the man died as neighbors went about their morning moving cars for street-sweeping. Police said the man had been shot in the upper body. There was no information available on a suspect or a possible motive, Long Beach Police Department Spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said. Homicide detectives were investigating.
