Police are investigating two separate shootings that took place hours apart, leaving one woman injured and another man in critical but stable condition.
Officers first responded to the area of Webster Avenue and Spring Street in West Long Beach around 10:42 p.m. Saturday after a fight escalated into people from two vehicles firing guns at one another and striking a woman in the upper body.
Police said that two vehicles pulled alongside each other, and the victim and another woman got out of their cars and engaged in a physical fight. During the fight, occupants from both cars began firing shots at one another, police said.
The suspects fled before officers arrived at the scene, and the Long Beach Police Department transported the woman to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The second shooting took place in the 5600 block of Paramount Avenue around 2:23 a.m. Sunday, police said. Officers found a man at the scene who had been shot multiple times in the lower body.
According to police, the man was outside when he and another man engaged in a verbal dispute that led to the shooting. The suspect fled before police arrived, and the man was taken to the hospital by LBPD personnel in critical but stable condition.
In both cases, officers located evidence like bullet casings and strike marks to indicate a shooting had occurred. Suspect information and the motive for both shootings is under investigation, police said.
