4:45pm | This morning Long Beach firefighters responded to a report of smoke inside the kitchen of the Spires Restaurant on the corner of Lakewood Blvd. and Willow St. The restaurant was evacuated and the interior was charged with smoke. The attic area that houses the air conditioning equipment caught fire, according to the Long Beach Fire Department. The fire was contained and crews began salvage operations inside the kitchen area.
Long Beach Police Officers temporarily closed down Eastbound Willow St., while Firefighters overhauled the roof area to check for any hot spots. Long Beach Health Department responded and issued a closure notice due to the smoke contamination of the kitchen.
There were a total of eight Fire Department Apparatus with 23 personnel working on-scene. No injuries were reported.
