Yvonne Robinson, 50, was found guilty earlier this month by a 12-person jury of leaking details from multiple police investigations to members of the Baby Insane Crips street gang.
Witnesses said she was an integral part in forming the LBPD’s gang detail, but prosecutors said that familiarity with street gangs crossed a line. The jury ultimately agreed.
The jury will now sort through evidence including wiretapped calls, confidential police reports, surprise witness testimony, gang colors and a red dress.
Prosecutors zeroed in on the ex-detective’s relationship with Long Beach rapper P-Nice: “Didn’t you want to make sure he wasn’t making gangsta rap?”
Yvonne Robinson says her knowledge of Long Beach gangs made her a better cop. Prosecutors say she was all too familiar with local gang culture.
Long Beach police say a wiretap inadvertently caught evidence of a detective leaking information to the Baby Insane Crips. Today, a jury began hearing the case.
