8:50am | The Port of Long Beach is holding public to hearings on Oct. 5 and Oct. 13 on draft environmental documents studying a proposal to develop a $650 million container-shipping terminal on a 160-acre parcel on Terminal Island.
The development would showcase sustainable goods movement and generate up to 40,000 jobs in the region, according to the port.
The Oct. 5 hearing is at Long Beach City Council Chambers, 333 W. Ocean Blvd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7 p.m. The Oct. 13 hearing is at Cabrillo High School Auditorium, 2001 Santa Fe Ave.. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., presentation starts at 7 p.m.
The port has released a draft environmental impact statement and supplemental environmental impact report analyzing the impacts of the proposed development, and the proposed mitigation measures to address those impacts.

The proposed Pier S development “would utilize the latest technology and practices for reducing air pollution from cargo operations,” according to the port. “In addition, the new terminal would help the Port to remain competitive and able to sustain additional jobs in the region.”
