Former 3rd District Councilmember and current Harbor Commissioner Doug Drummond was elected president of the Long Beach Port Board Harbor of Commissioners this week.

Drummond has served on the board since 2011 and previously was on the City’s Civil Service Commission as well as the Long Beach Transit Board of Directors. He was also the California State Commissioner for the Board of Parole Hearings, as well as a Fish & Game Commissioner for Los Angeles County.

“It’s my goal to promote a spirit of cooperation among the Board and the staff of the Harbor Department,” Drummond said in a statement. “The Port of Long Beach is a leading international seaport, and I know that all of the commissioners take our responsibilities here very seriously. We intend to work together to make this Port even stronger and better able to compete in the international marketplace.”

Additionally at this week’s Harbor Commission meeting, Commissioner Rich Dines was appointed vice president while newly appointed Commissioner Lori Ann Farrell, who left her position on the LBT board to take the position, will act as secretary.

Farrell was appointed to the commission last month following the abrupt resignation of former Commissoner Nick Sramek. Who will occupy the fifth seat left open by Fields’ departure has yet to be decided by the mayor.
