Nature lovers, conservationists and the general public are invited to the Catalina Island Conservancy’s annual Conservation and Education Symposium this Friday, November 18 at the Hyatt Centric The Pike Long Beach.

The one-day mini-symposium, titled Finding a Balance, offers a series of short presentations by conservancy biologists, educators and research partners, followed by a question-and-answer segment. For a full list of the presentations, which start at 10:00AM, visit the link here.

The Catalina Island fox recovery effort, invasive plant removal, expanding the island’s trail system and building its first LEED certified building are just a few of the topics to be discussed throughout the day, according to the conservancy. Other presentations are set to address biosecurity on the northern Channel Island, the island population of the endemic Hutton’s Vireo, habitat modeling for plant conservation and a study of Allen’s hummingbirds, according to the program.

“The Catalina Island Conservancy’s annual Conservation and Education Symposium is an informative and inspiring day filled with presentations about the important research on Catalina Island, the educational programs offered by the Conservancy and its other programs to enhance nature-based recreation on the Island, said Tony Budrovich, Catalina Island Conservancy president and CEO. “Participants hear directly from the leaders involved in each of these programs and have the opportunity to pose questions and learn more about each topic.”

The public can register for the event by visiting the conservancy’s website here or calling (562) 437-8555. The price of registration is $40 and includes lunch, as well as a wine and cheese reception.

Hyatt Centric The Pike Long Beach is located at 285 Bay Street.
